Mixed-Mode Media

Mixed mode or multi-modal ligands constitute a new group of ligands that share the ability to interact with target molecules through multiple types of interactions. In addition to ionic interactions, several other types of interactions are involved such as hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic interaction and pai-pai interaction. The strength of the individual interactions depends on the overall binding conditions.

Media containing mixed-mode ligands possesses selectivities that are different from those of the “traditional” ligands. This type of media is generally more salt-tolerant and could be more selective than the ion exchange or hydrophobic media alone.

MabPolish Type I to Type III are designed for removing host cell proteins and aggregates from monoclonal antibodies. MabPolish DUO has a size-exclusion shell for removing <150KDa impurities from monoclonal antibodies. SepFast MMWC-1 has a mixture of phenyl and carboxyl functional groups suitable for purifying cationic protein molecules in the presence of salt (up to 0.5M NaCl). ViralPolish 5000 to 10000 range is a class of novel resins possessing size-exclusion shell and mixed-mode core for purifying nanoparticles such as viral vectors, exosomes, DNA etc, in flow-through operational mode.
